Born: December 19, 1910 Le Grand, Iowa.
Parents: David T. And Cora L. Meyers.
Married: April 27, 1935 in Roseburg, Oregon.
Died: November 15, 2011 in Salem, Oregon.
Age 100. Margaret was the eldest of three children born at home near Le Grand, Iowa to David and Cora Meyers. As a young girl, she contracted polio and nearly died. After many months in the hospital, she recovered. Her family moved to Idaho, and then to Roseburg, where they settled. She attended Fullerton School, and graduated from Roseburg High School in 1930. She married John W. ("Jack") Doyle, a local businessman, in 1935. Over the next 13 years, they added three children to their family, John W. (Johnny), Terry D., and Shannon M. Margaret kept the books for Jack's business, Doyle's Sales and Service (which later became Doyle's Wrecking Yard). The couple built and settled into their lifelong home on the South Umpqua River. She was a homemaker who loved gardening, growing fruit and berries, as well as beautiful flowers. Her family meant everything to her, and she felt blessed when she became a grandmother. She was truly the matriarch of the Doyle family, hosting multitudes of birthday parties, Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. The cookie bucket was always full. Her peanut butter pie and prune cakes were legend. In 1997, Jack passed away and Margaret continued to live in the family home until she was 99. She became a die-hard Trailblazer and Mariner's fan, and could talk sports with the best of 'em. As she became increasingly frail, she was lovingly assisted by many family members, including her granddaughter-in-law, SunYe, and her granddaughter, Joy. In 2010, she moved to Salem to be near her daughter, Shannon, and was cared for by the staff at Premier Care Home. She passed away just shy of her 101st birthday with Joy and Shannon at her side.
Joy writes of her favorite "grandma memories"... "huge family get togethers at Thanksgiving and Christmas are my fondest memories. Spending many hours hunting rocks, finding agate and petrified wood, which she would display in her many flower pots. I caught lots of catfish, which she would fry up. Grandma could always be counted on to be there, and I will miss her terribly. I love you, Grandma."
At her request, no funeral services will be held. A family gathering will be held at a later time. Her ashes are to be scattered at sea.
The family wishes to thank Willamette Valley Hospice (Kelly, RN--you are the best!) and Katie, Amanda, Breezy, and Serena of Premier Care Home for their care and understanding.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Johnny (Shirley) Doyle; Terry (Chiyemi) Doyle; her daughter, Shannon (Jim) Jorgenson; step-daughter, Darlene Troup; grandchildren, Christopher Doyle, Joy Doyle, Steven (Pam) Doyle, Robert (SunYe) Doyle, and Truell Doyle; David Jorgenson, Mark Jorgenson, and Andy (Kristin) Jorgenson; Brick Brown, Gary Brown, Kenny Brown, Debi Gowey, and Bobby Troup; and numerous great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her dog, Bonzi (named after her favorite basketball player, Bonzi Wells) and her cat, Kitty Blue.
