A group of Roosevelt elk grazes on grass in front of the caretaker's home Sunday at the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area east of Reedsport. The protected area managed by the federal Bureau of Land Management is home to about 100 Roosevelt elk, the largest of four North American elk subspecies.
