The gallery that features reader photos on The News-Review's website, nrtoday.com, looks different than it has in the past, but we continue to welcome reader photos on the site and many of them will be featured in our Photo Gallery on page 3 of each day's paper.
Readers are encouraged to submit their favorite photos to us at nrtoday.com/myscene. Users of the website may view reader photos there as well. Another way to get there is by clicking on the “Submit a photo” heading next to the photo of the camera under “Inside nrtoday.com.”
All it takes is a user name, password and email address to be able to submit or view the photos. The page will look familiar to anyone who has entered one of our photo contests, such as the fishing photo contest taking place now. There are spaces to include details about the photo and the photographer's name and city. Comments may be made about the photos also.
What's missing is the link directly to “member photos” on the front page under the green Photos and Videos tab on the front page of the site.
This change occurred when nrtoday.com discontinued its contract with the vendor, Pluck, to reduce the costs associated with the website. A platform called UPICKEM is now being used instead to upload and display the photos.
The photos submitted by readers in the past for the photo galleries are currently being exported from Pluck and are expected to be uploaded to UPICKEM by the end of February.
The ability for readers to comment on stories and photos was also discontinued with the loss of Pluck. The opportunity to comment will return eventually as well. A revamping of nrtoday.com is scheduled for late May to coincide with new computer software being installed in the newsroom and advertising departments.
The exact date for the return of commenting has not yet been determined.
