LEMOLO LAKE — Following a two-day search, an Oregon State Police sergeant and trooper Wednesday found a hypothermic man who ran away from a crash on Highway 138 East near Lemolo Lake in northeast Douglas County.
Jason D. Cooper, 37, of Temecula, Calif., was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg. His condition was not available this morning.
OSP Sgt. Dave Randall and Senior Trooper Don Frerichs found Cooper at about 3 p.m. in woods north of the highway, according to state police.
Cooper was wearing a fleece jackets, shorts and sandals. Troopers had been looking for Cooper since he walked into the woods Monday following a two-vehicle crash Monday near Milepost 71.
The other driver told Cooper acted strangely after the crash and ran into the snow-covered woods.
On Wednesday, Randall and Frerichs followed tracks into the woods for about five miles. The troopers traveled up the road on snowmobiles for about 1 1/2 miles and found Cooper on the ground covered by tree branches.
Cooper, who had no food or water, said he couldn't walk anymore.
Frerichs gave Cooper a sandwich and water and took him back to the highway on a snowmobile, where he received medical care.
