Roscoe Imrie Conn departed from this life on February 9, 2012 at the Veteran's Hospital in Roseburg, Oregon due to complications of his age. He was 96, born on August 11, 1915. Henry Roscoe Conn and Mother Ethel Imrie, preceded in death by his two sisters, Braunda Short and Theresa Lehrbach and childhood death of brother Kenneth Jesse Conn. Imrie is survived by his three sons, Michael Edward Conn and his wife Kay of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; Richard Imrie Conn and his wife Bobbye of Roseburg, Oregon; Gregory Sehl Conn and his wife Linda of Vancouver, Washington. Imrie is also survived by his five grandchildren, Julie Conn of Los Angeles, California; Jeff Conn of Portland, Oregon; Jerod Sutphin and his wife Monica and their children, Kalye and Aiden Imrie; Diana Fox and her husband Ryan, their children, Brenden and Wyat of Roseburg, Oregon; and Alicia Goodson and her husband Matt of Burns, Oregon.
Imrie was born in Roseburg and grew up on a farm off Melrose Road that his parents homesteaded. He graduated from then Oregon State College in Corvallis, Oregon with a degree in Agriculture Engineering and a commissioned officer in the US Army in 1938. He was married to Mona Elizabeth Sehl of Portland, Oregon in 1939, his wife for 63 years on this earth, who preceded his departure in 2001. Early in his career, he traveled throughout the US working for the J.I. Case Company (Tractor Division) until he was called to duty in December, 1941, where he proudly served his country in the Pacific Theater in the US Army under General Douglas MacArthur. He was stationed in Australia and the South Pacific. He left his military service with the rank of Captain. After the war, he and Mona and their young family ventured to Australia where he served as General Manager for the Case Tractor Company. He returned to the US and settled in Los Gatos, California in the mid 1950's, opening his own tractor dealership in San Jose, California. Imrie also worked in Real Estate and made a run for Congress during the Kennedy administration. Imrie returned to his hometown of Roseburg in 2002, residing at Linus Oakes for seven years and just recently moving to Riverview Terrace.
Services will be held at Roseburg National Cemetery, 1770 W. Harvard Ave in Roseburg on Friday, February 17 at 11 a.m., presided by Mike Ruyle pastor of the Melrose Church. Catholic services will also be offered by Deacon John Stenbeck of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Imrie's final resting spot. Following these services will be a reception at Riverview Terrace. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the DAV, 913 NW Garden Valley Blvd. Roseburg, Oregon 97471 can be made.
Imrie embraced his conversion to the Catholic faith, and faced all life's challenges with honesty, integrity and a twinkle in his eye. He will be surely missed by all who knew him. We wish him God's speed on his final adventure, with the faith and belief that we will all meet again in our Lord's hands.
