Age 52, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012 with his soul mate Ginger and dear friend Cathy by his side. Rick was born on May 28,1959, in Medford, Oregon, the second son to Roy and Della Patton. Rick lived in Roseburg most of his life and attended school at Fullerton IV, Fremont Jr. High, and graduated from Roseburg High in 1977, where he was captain of the tennis team. He served as Roseburg's tennis pro for several years before returning to college. He studied engineering at UCC and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from OIT. Rick proudly worked for local government, engineering, and construction firms in design and project management for many years. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Price Patton and Della Belle (Bigham) Patton. He is survived by his brother, Bob Patton from Tigard, OR; along with many relatives in Medford, OR, Reno, NV, and Texas. Rick is also survived by his loving soul mate and partner, Ginger Terry from Roseburg. Rick made friends wherever he went. He was an avid student of politics and world history. Anyone who knew Rick could always count on his keen sense of humor for a good laugh. Rick's passion was his love for animals. Rick, joined by family members and local animal shelters, was dedicated to helping reduce the unwanted pet population. Rick was always surrounded by many of the pets they helped save throughout the years. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite animal shelter or clinic in Rick's name. There will be a Celebration of Rick's Life on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Umpqua Valley Arts Center, 1624 W. Harvard Ave in Roseburg.
