Reedsport man arrested on suspicion of murder

REEDSPORT — A 34-year-old man was being held today without bail on suspicion of stabbing to death a 37-year-old Reedsport resident during a fight outside an apartment Saturday evening.

Michael Lee Corrie of Reedsport was arrested shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, several hours after Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and Reedsport police responded to a fight in the 2300 block of Longwood Drive.

Shawn Michael Christian was stabbed with a knife and pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s spokesman Dwes Hutson said. The Oregon State Medical Examine’s Office conducted an autopsy Sunday, but the results were not released today.

Sheriff’s deputies and the Reedsport officers responded to a report of two men, later identified as Christian and Corrie, fighting outside an apartment complex around 7 p.m. Saturday, officials said.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated and is conducting the homicide investigation.

Corrie was arrested by detectives based on both forensic evidence and witness statements, deputies said.
