Ideas for cute handmade Valentines and "good candy" | Moms

When my kids were little, they loved to craft. Especially Emilie. I really didn’t mind. We had a lot of fun when we did projects.

Some time along the way, she decided (and passed this belief onto her little sister) that Valentine cards should be handmade.

This is all well and good when you start your planning early. Not the night before, with none of the supplies you need on hand.

Oh, the frustration of coming up with a cute crafty Valentine to hand out to a bazillion friends and teachers at school. And every one needs candy attached or your Valentine is not considered a “good one.”

But remember to get the “good candy.” Did you know that? Yeah, neither did I, but I’m wiser now, so there’s that.

When did Valentine’s Day become a second Christmas?

There were years I tried to be good and get them to pick out boxes of cards after Valentine’s Day to use the next year. How can you beat a 25¢ box of Barbie cards?

Me (to the littles): “And we can spend a little more on candy if we do this!”

But, come February 13th,

Littles: “I don’t like Barbie anymore.” and “My friends will think it’s silly.”

Me: “...”

Oh, and back to that crafty part. I didn’t have the bonus of Pinterest, so it ended up being a lot of glue and stickers and a heart-shaped doily or two. And candy, mustn’t forget the candy.

If you are anything like me, you haven’t started crafting Valentines yet. It’s only February 6!

Take it from me, start now.

So, moms, my gift to you: Here are a few of my picks for cute, easy Valentine crafts to help your child make to give to all their little Valentines.

Have fun creating with your kids. Just don’t wait until next Thursday night to start. At least get your supplies now before the stores run out of the “good candy.”
