A $1.3 million renovation of the Pavilion Arena at the Douglas County Fairgrounds is moving ahead on schedule and on budget, Fairgrounds Manager Harold Phillips says.
“I feel very confident the project will be completed by the fair,” he said today.
The 60-year-old structure, the oldest building at the fairgrounds, hosts rodeos, 4-H and FFA activities and other community events.
Phillips, who’s overseeing the hiring of subcontractors, says bids for various aspects of the renovation have been coming in below estimates.
Douglas County Fire District No. 2 helped push the project forward by supplying volunteers who tore out the arena’s old bleachers.
The 2014 Douglas County Fair will open Aug. 6. Fair officials plan a ceremony to celebrate the revamped pavilion Aug. 7.
