Election Night 2014: DeGroot holds lead over Sweeden for Douglas county surveyor

Kris DeGroot of Glide holds a solid lead over Carl Sweeden of Oakland in their race for Douglas County surveyor.

DeGroot had 7,835 votes, or 54.23 percent, to Sweeden’s 6,560 votes, or 45.51 percent, in results released shortly after 8 p.m.

DeGroot and Sweeden waged a friendly campaign to succeed Randy Smith, who has announced he plans to retire at the end of the year.

The winner will take office for a four-year term in January.

The Douglas County Clerk’s Office anticipates updating election results at 10 p.m.
