Election Night 2014: Hayden builds big edge in House District 7

Fall Creek dentist and rancher Cedric Hayden has built a commanding lead over former Cottage Grove mayor Gary Williams for the Republican nomination in House District 7.

Hayden held nearly a 1,000-vote lead over Williams, according to results released shortly after 8 p.m. in Douglas and Lane counties.

Hayden had collected 2,906 votes to Williams’ 1,917 votes.

The Douglas County Clerk’s Office anticipates updating results at 10 p.m., while Lane County elections officials anticipate updating results at 9:30 p.m.

Hayden and Williams are vying for the seat now held by Winchester Republican Bruce Hanna, who did not seek re-election.

No Democrat filed for the seat in the Republican-leaning district. Patrick Starnes of McKenzie Bridge has formed a campaign committee to run as an independent.
