Election Night 2014: Reedsport voters OK shift in fees

Reedsport voters agreed to an increase in stormwater fees offset by at least an equal reduction in sewer rates.

Measure 10-133, a shuffling of fees to help the city satisfy federal and state agencies, was passing by 398 yes votes, or 58.02 percent, to 288 no votes, or 41.98 percent, according to results released tonight by the Douglas County Clerk’s Office.

The city asked voters to raise stormwater fees to raise money to meet Federal Emergency Management Agency requirements and certify the strength of a levee that protects low-lying portions of the city.

In return, the city pledged to refinance a state loan it took for a wastewater treatment plant, saving money and allowing sewer rates to be reduced.
