UPDATE: Victim in pickup crash near Elkton identified

The man killed Friday morning when his pickup crashed into a ditch on Highway 38 West, 7 miles east of Elkton, has been identified as David Charles Duvick, 71, of Elkton.

Duvick was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup west shortly before 8 a.m. when for an unknown reason the pickup traveled across the eastbound lane, went into the ditch and crashed at the base of a driveway, according to the Oregon State Police.

Duvick was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was wearing safety restraints and the pickup’s air bags deployed, troopers said.

OSP and the Douglas County Medical Examiner are looking into whether the victim suffered a medical emergency that may have contributed to his death.

The Kellogg Fire Department, North Douglas County Fire & EMS and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.

A fatal crash involving a single-vehicle has occurred on Highway 138 West, 7 miles south of Elkton, according to Oregon State Police.

The accident was reported shortly after 9 a.m. One person has been reported deceased.

The vehicle is off the road. No lanes are blocked.

Police and emergency responders are on scene now.
