MYRTLE CREEK: Sheriff’s office seeks leads on attack

Authorities are investigating the alleged assault of a homeless man who fell into a coma after a blow to the head that fractured his skull.

According to a Douglas County Sheriff’s office news release, a deputy saw Dylan Miars, 29, at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday lying along the road in the 600 block of Old Pacific Highway in Myrtle Creek.

Deputies said Miars was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, where it was determined he suffered a skull fracture and swelling of the brain.

While at the hospital, Miars’ condition deteriorated. Miars was transported out of Douglas County to another medical facility, which deputies did not identify.

Miars’ prognosis was unknown this afternoon, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating Miars’ injury as a felony assault. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 541-440-4458 or the anonymous tip line at 541-957-2099.
