Yoncalla OKs tax measure to help fund county libraries

YONCALLA - The City Council on Tuesday made Yoncalla the first city to pass a resolution to put a tax measure on the May 15 ballot to fund Douglas County libraries.The council voted unanimously after hearing a proposal to increase property taxes by up to 50 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation to provide the 11-branch system with stable funding."All of us on the City Council use the library a lot," said Mayor Jerry Cross, a retired teacher.
