Three years ago, about 220 kids were in foster care on an average day in Douglas County. Now that figure is about 375, according to Susan Knight, director of CASA for Douglas County, which represents abused children in court. The directors of nonprofit organizations aiding child victims attribute the dramatic increase in cases to the poor economy.
