Fair Oaks picks Sutherlin grad for chief

SUTHERLIN — A former Roseburg firefighter who is studying to become a paramedic will be the new fire chief of the Fair Oaks Fire Department, replacing Paul Yegge, who resigned in the face of public opposition to his management of the district. The board’s new members Wednesday voted 4-1 to hire Robert Mock, 26, of Roseburg. Mock, a 2004 graduate of Sutherlin High School, said today he plans to use his local contacts to help get the department up and running again. “I’m pretty excited about it. We’re starting from nothing, and we’re building the department back up,” Mock said. …
