Events honoring Vaux’s swifts planned in Roseburg

The Umpqua Valley Audubon Society has organized a series of events in September for Douglas County residents to observe and learn about Vaux’s swifts. The birds migrate from Central and South America to nest on the West Coast, often in chimneys. In Roseburg, the birds nest in the Clay Place chimney behind the Umpqua Valley Arts Center, 1624 W. Harvard Ave. The Audubon Society will host Swift Fest to celebrate swift migration from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 9 behind the Arts Center in the Fir Grove section of Stewart Park.
