Crosswalk sting reminds drivers school starts soon

Two Roseburg police officers staked out a crosswalk on Southeast Stephens Street Thursday morning as Ron Hampton stepped into it. Hampton drew attention to himself by wearing a bright yellow jacket. The retired firefighter crossed back and forth, while Officers Dan David and Roger Childers sat on motorcycles, tucked between buildings. Once Hampton stepped into the crosswalk, motorists who didn’t stop were eligible for tickets. After 45 minutes, each officer had pulled over three drivers.
