Oregon senator stumps for veteran jobs bill

Oregon U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley said Wednesday he will urge Congress to pass a $5 billion bill that would create a veterans job corps to employ veterans as firefighters and police officers and on conservation jobs on public lands. The Veterans Jobs Corps Act of 2012 would also establish an online database to help returning veterans find jobs. The bill, which is scheduled go on the Senate floor when Congress reconvenes, was introduced by Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., and co-sponsored by Merkley, a Democrat, and Sens.
