Last month I wrote a letter entitled “Fear for your Future.” In reply, several people phoned to call me a communist *&%#*&. Another gentleman called to ask why I hadn’t moved to a communist country. When I told him my grandparents emigrated to America from Czarist Russia to distance themselves from an oppressive government, he promptly hung up. Yes, we have freedom of speech in this country. However, I couldn’t have felt more disappointed in the readers who would bypass critical thinking for something so mundane as spouting profanity.
