United Way starts its 2012-13 campaign with breakfast

A 2012 graduate of Phoenix Charter School thanked the United Way Wednesday for its financial support of the school that turned his life around. Brandon Gressor addressed about 175 community members gathered for the Greater Douglas United Way’s annual breakfast. The breakfast, held in Umpqua Community College’s student cafeteria, kicked off the chapter’s 2012-13 fundraising campaign. An auction at the breakfast raised $4,000. Gressor said he was mixed up with the wrong crowd as a Sutherlin middle-schooler and could have lived a very different life if Phoenix hadn’t opened its doors to him.
