Roseburg violinist spreads love of classical music

Kristin Riley moved to Douglas County in 1998 and was promptly told there wasn’t an audience for classical music. A Los Angeles transplant and lifelong violinist, Riley wanted to share her passion for the genre. She left fliers in businesses about private lessons. Business owners thought she was fighting a losing battle. “They told me, ‘This is a logging town. You’re not going to get violin students around here,’ ” she said.
