State’s rejection stiffens resolve to pave national cemetery lot

Roseburg has failed another attempt to win state funding to pave a dirt parking lot next to the Roseburg National Cemetery, again putting the job into the hands of community organizers. Bob Cotterell, a Vietnam veteran and city councilor, said Tuesday he hopes to mobilize volunteers over the next two weeks to donate labor and materials to pave the lot, which is muddy in the winter and dusty in the summer. “We rely way too much on government to do things for us,” he said. “It’s not going to happen on the taxpayer’s dollar because we just don’t have it. …
