Finances may cause county to combine library and museum director positions

Douglas County leaders are considering whether to have one person head the county’s library system and its museum, an idea that the current museum director, Gardner Chappell, finds intriguing. “I think there are a lot of creative ways museums and libraries can come together,” Chappell said today. The director of the county’s 11-branch system, Max Leek, will retire Oct. 1. In the past, county commissioners have taken advantage of retirements by department heads to combine positions to save money.
