Oakland shelter seeks homes for wild and abandoned felines

OAKLAND — Three weeks ago, Francy, a little gray cat with a broken leg, leaped 7 feet to get to her kittens. People are still talking about it. “I tell you, this is the greatest little cat mama in the world. If there’s a cat heaven, this girl is already halfway there,” said Oakland resident Jack Smith, who provides foster care for about 20 stray cats in an old house on Pine Street. Smith’s current cats include Francy and her seven babies, who were previously holed up in a space above the ceiling at Marshall’s Towing and Repair in Sutherlin. …
