Apple Day serves up heritage and cider in one festival

YONCALLA — Cider presses and handmade quilts at Saturday’s Apple Day Festival took visitors back in time for a celebration of Oregon’s earliest settlers. Though no one made the trek by wagon, Southern Oregon’s pioneer heritage was on display at the daylong event. The festival offered a chance to view a century and a half of artifacts and accomplishments from the Applegate family. Apple Day took place on the historic property established by Charles Applegate between 1852 and 1856. The home, northwest of Yoncalla, is the oldest house in Oregon that is still in the possession of the original family. …
