Douglas County heat wave could continue through end of the month

The heat rapidly climbed to 97 degrees Thursday afternoon in Roseburg, tying a record high for the date set in 1989. The temperature at the Roseburg Regional Airport jumped 14 degrees in the three-hour period between 1 and 4 p.m., according to readings taken by the National Weather Service. Fire officials continue to be on high alert. Roseburg has not received rain since July 20, a period of 55 days, the 18th longest dry spell since records began being collected in 1899.
