NeighborWorks adds foreclosure counselor

Douglas County homeowners facing possible foreclosure have a better chance of avoiding it through local counseling and an informational website. Olympia Church, housing center manager for NeighborWorks Umpqua in Roseburg, said the organization now has a second foreclosure counselor, Amanda Hicks, who will help homeowners about to enter mediation with lenders understand their options. Money for Hicks’ position comes from the state’s foreclosure mediation program. Oregon appropriated $4 million from a national mortgage settlement with five of the nation’s biggest lenders and is using most of the funds to pay for additional counselors statewide.
