Two contested city council races in Winston

WINSTON — Two newcomers are vying for a seat on the City Council, while an incumbent is seeking another term against a candidate who’s lost contact since filing to run. John Parker Jr., 33, and Fred Steiner, 65, are running in Ward One for a position held by Council President Ken McGinnis, who chose not to run for re-election. McGinnis is chief of the Winston-Dillard Fire District. In Ward Two, Councilor Sandy Lipphardt, 74, will be on the ballot against James Rusnak, who did not respond to interview requests.
