Senior volunteers lauded for service

More than 700 senior volunteers who donated 231,030 hours of service in the past year were saluted Monday at the 39th annual Recognition of Volunteers banquet at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Mike Fieldman, CEO of the United Community Action Network, presented Douglas County Commissioner Joe Laurance with a mock check of $4,550,321 to represent the value of the service to the community. “You are what makes our community so special,” Berta Dargen, president of The Volunteer Foundation, told the volunteers.
