Former police chief challenges Sutherlin mayor’s leadership

SUTHERLIN — Mayor Denny Cameron faces a challenge from a councilor who was once Sutherlin’s police chief and questions the council’s direction under the incumbent. Councilor Tom Boggs is vying to unseat Cameron in the Nov. 6 election. Both candidates have picked up endorsements from councilors, and they agree the city should try to attract more businesses. The candidates diverge, though, when assessing Cameron’s nearly two years as mayor.
