Douglas jail escapee Thomas Grimes sentenced to 7.5 years in prison

Thomas Ivan Grimes spent 35 days on the lam last summer after escaping from the Douglas County Jail. He will now spend 52 days in prison for each day of freedom. The 32-year-old Springfield resident pleaded no contest Wednesday to second-degree escape. Douglas County Circuit Judge George Ambrosini sentenced Grimes to five years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed for the Class C felony.
