These are times that try librarians’ souls. I wish it weren’t so. I wish that I didn’t have to see these dedicated public servants weeping, but that’s what I’ve run into three times in the past 12 months. They hide it from the public, of course. “We just keep smiling,” one librarian told me, “No matter what comes, the important thing is to keep on smiling.
