Pleasant Hill resident enters 1,676-pound pumpkin into the eighth annual Canyonville Pumpkin and Music Celebration

CANYONVILLE — Steve Daletas turned in a 1,676-pound pumpkin Saturday to win top honors for the second year in a row at the Canyonville Pumpkin and Music Celebration. The pumpkin earned the Pleasant Hill man the $1,000 prize and the celebration’s record for heaviest pumpkin. Lars Cope of Canyonville had the largest pumpkin among Douglas County growers at 740 pounds. The October festival had more than just a few giant squashes. Half-ton plus pumpkins lined the street leading into Pioneer Park in downtown Canyonville. Growers had trucked their pumpkins from around the West Coast. Live music, classic cars and a …
