The pumpkins of Matthew Brady and Laura Holcomb claimed first place prizes Saturday in the first Douglas County Farm Bureau big pumpkin contest. Brady, a sheep and hay rancher in the Glide area, won the open division with a 245-pound entry. Holcomb, whose family ranches in the Kellogg area, won the youth division with a 195-pound pumpkin. Brady said he planted pumpkin seed in May. He said sheep manure, lime and water were the ingredients he used to help it grow. His entry earned him a $500 dollar prize and a plaque.
