Rain helps lower fire restrictions

Fire officials are breathing easier after rain fell on Douglas County this weekend. Roseburg received .29 inches of rain Friday through Sunday. The northwest parts of the county received between one-half and 1 inch of precipitation, according to meteorologist Brett Lutz with the National Weather Service in Medford. The rainfall, the first measurable precipitation in Roseburg since July 20, was enough for Roseburg and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 to lift burn bans today. The Douglas Forest Protective Association lowered fire danger from “extreme” to “moderate.” Rain fell after a high-pressure blocking ridge offshore was broken down, allowing precipitation …
