Thinner in the middle

GLIDE — Glide schools Superintendent Steve Dickenson wants to end a long-simmering debate about whether to close the district’s middle school, where enrollment started declining in the late 1990s. “This notion, that always comes across as closing the middle school, has been talked about every year,” Dickenson said. “That has had the effect on the middle school staff of feeling like they’re on the chopping block every year. “We’re either going to close it or we’re not.” Glide wouldn’t be the first Douglas County district to cut out a step between elementary school and high school.
