Guest column: Alder Creek Community Forest rich in educational opportunities

Last Saturday, Alder Creek Community Forest in Canyonville celebrated its 10th anniversary. Many reading this article have never heard of ACCF and might wonder what the significance is of a 10-year anniversary of this small educational forest. Some brief history: Bob and Virginia Proctor, longtime residents of the Canyonville area, owned 250 acres of wooded property. They slowly and carefully logged the forest for years while raising three children. The youngest, James, or Jim, as we call him, grew up playing in the forest while attending South County schools.
