Roseburg council asks panel to chop down rules on trimming trees

A move to make Roseburg a Tree City USA hit a snag Monday night. By a 4-3 vote, the City Council sent a tree-maintenance ordinance back to the Parks Commission for more work. The council must adopt the ordinance before Roseburg can qualify to be a Tree City, a designation already bestowed upon more than 3,400 communities, according to the Arbor Day Foundation. Monday’s decision makes it unlikely the city will meet a December deadline to apply for membership this year.
