Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe starts campaign to send servicemen beef jerky

A stocking stuffed with durable and tasty beef jerky links overseas military personnel to home, soldiers said Wednesday at a press conference on the Umpqua Indian Foods’ annual “Stockings for Soldiers” drive. “Getting one is a good morale booster. It lets a piece of home be there,” said Army National Guard Sgt. Denny Cortez, speaking at the Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe’s Roseburg office. For the past eight years, the tribe’s food company has subsidized delivery of stockings filled with beef jerky and other snacks to servicemen and woman serving abroad or stateside.
