Timber sale to test ecology theory

MONROE (AP) — A proposed timber sale in Benton County is intended to provide a wet-climate test of the logging theories of two prominent Northwest forestry professors who say Northwest woods could use more thinning and clearings. The Obama administration has been working with Norm Johnson of Oregon State University and Jerry Franklin of the University of Washington to ramp up timber harvests on federal lands, as well as make forests healthier and improve fish and wildlife habitat, the Corvallis Gazette-Times reported.
