A light rain fell as a former neighbor shared fond memories of Ronald Beutler at a ceremony Monday to add his name to the Douglas County Vietnam War memorial. Sutherlin resident Anita Cox was just 14 years old when Beutler died in Vietnam in 1971, but she remembered him as a kind neighbor who brought her family a package mistakenly delivered to his house. “It was so sweet of him to bring the gift in,” she said.
