Myrtle Creek woman killed in head-on collision

A 51-year-old Myrtle Creek woman was killed this morning in a head-on car crash with an alleged intoxicated driver on Diamond Lake Boulevard, according to the Roseburg Police Department.

Police are not releasing the name of the woman until they’ve contacted her family, Roseburg Police Sgt. Jeff Eichenbusch said.

The driver of the other car involved in the accident, Nathan Howard Stuart, 22, of Roseburg, was arrested on suspicion of criminally negligent homicide, second degree manslaughter and driving under the influence of intoxicants, Eichenbusch said.

Stuart was traveling west in the 3800 block of Diamond Lake Boulevard in a Jeep Cherokee when he drifted into the eastbound lane around 9:30 a.m., colliding with a Dodge Neon driving east, Eichenbusch said. The Jeep rolled several times, coming to a rest on its side, and the Dodge was pushed into a guardrail on the eastbound side of Diamond Lake Boulevard.

Both drivers were transported to Mercy Medical Center where the driver of the Dodge later died from extensive injuries.

Stuart was treated and released. He was then lodged at the Douglas County Jail.
