Festival of Trees begins in Canyonville

Kelly Moore hoped for hand-carved Santas to help decorate a Christmas tree she planned to enter in this year’s Festival of Trees in Canyonville. So she and her sister asked the Umpqua Carvers, a group of woodworking seniors, if they would carve some wooden Santas for a tree to be auctioned to benefit the Mercy Foundation. “We were kind of expecting 10 or 15 Santas at the most,” Moore said. The carvers made 68 — enough Santas to nearly cover the tree, top to bottom. “They’re just amazing. Really, really amazing. Every single one of them is different,” Moore said. …
