The Cow Creek Umpqua Tribe donated $40,000 to 17 Douglas County food pantries Wednesday afternoon. It was the tribe’s third annual holiday donation to alleviate hunger around the county. “It’s very, very unfortunate that in such an advanced society, something as basic as hunger is an issue,” said Cow Creek CEO Michael Rondeau shortly before handing out the checks. “We look toward a day when this will be unnecessary.” The United Community Action Network Food Bank received a $2,000 check.
