On Biz: Soap-maker doesn’t let opportunity slip away

When Maryjean Anderson couldn’t find a soap vendor for the Canyonville Farmers Market, she decided to become one. Soap Opera Handmade Soap made its first sale Oct. 1. Anderson has continued to sell her homemade product at the Lookingglass Winter Farmers Market, some of the holiday fairs and via the Internet. “Oh, my gosh, I’m totally amazed at how much we’ve sold,” Anderson said. “To say we’ve sold 400 bars in two months is conservative.” Anderson, who lives in Canyonville with her husband, Marvin, said she got the idea to become a soap maker after she couldn’t find one for …
