SUTHERLIN — A man accused of attempted homicide was high on methamphetamine when he strangled an acquaintance who was letting him sleep on her couch, Sutherlin police said today. Jess Patrick Stephenson, 31, was booked Wednesday into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide and felony strangulation. He was in custody today in lieu of $150,000 bail. Sutherlin police received a report at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday of an assault at an apartment in the 600 block of Northwest First Avenue.
