Douglas County commissioners this week approved a $282,000 project to upgrade two elevators at the county health department on Madrone Street. The elevators, one from 1950 and the other a decade younger, have begun breaking down more often and replacement parts have become more difficult to find, said Kevin Potter, head of the county’s Building Facilities Department. At times, people have gotten stuck between floors, he said. “We certainly don’t want that to happen at the health department, where we have women and children coming in,” Potter told commissioners.
