Prep Basketball: North Bend holds off South Umpqua boys

TRI CITY — In their attempt to deal North Bend its first Far West League loss since the 2009-10 season, the South Umpqua Lancers couldn’t help themselves out down the stretch Tuesday. The fourth-ranked Bulldogs took the lead with 2 minutes 30 seconds to play, and the Lancers missed five free throws after that in a 44-41 loss to open the Far West League season. Ty Roane scored a game-high 16 points for North Bend (10-1, 1-0 FWL). His two free throws gave the Bulldogs a 42-41 lead they would never relinquish.
